TRAINING IN UNIVERSAL VALUES, ETHICS AND CITIZENSHIP FOR EDUCATORS
PALAS ATHENA trains educators, school teachers, principals and other education-related professionals to work and act as agents for the promotion of Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in their schools and institutions, also involving students’ families and local communities. The chief goal of this programme is to promote values such as mutual respect, dialogue, cooperation, respect for life, valuing diversity and celebrating differences. The following are the main projects undertaken by PALAS ATHENA under its public outreach Education programme:
• Priceless Values Seminars (offered free of charge to public and private school teachers two week-ends a month since 2000. Since its inception, this project has trained over 40,000 teachers)
• Peace in Action – Culture of Peace Leadership Training (in partnership with UNESCO)
• Educators for Peace - Training educators in Ethics, Universal Values, Citizen Awareness and other PALAS ATHENA values
YOUTH SCENE
The Youth Scene Programme seeks to promote the social and professional inclusion of underprivileged or at-risk children and teenagers by providing them with the broadest possible access to culture, arts, sports, leisure and citizen participation. This is accomplished by means of lectures and discussions, exchange of ideas, furtherance of the arts and craft, practical experience, etc based on ethics, universal human values and cooperation. The main projects under the Youth Scene programme are:
• Apprentice Youth Worker – Training course for interns hired under the ABN-AMRO Bank Social Inclusion programme.
• Exhibition of the film “Gandhi” at youth detention centres in São Paulo State.
• Youth Courthouse Project - Screening of short-length films and documentaries with discussion for young offenders who are taken to the São Paulo Youth Courthouse.
• Youth for Peace (in partnership with UNESCO and GLOBO TV) - Educational project developed in a São Paulo high school attended by at-risk teenagers
